Earth Day in the Yukon

This year is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day (April 22) and we want to celebrate it in a big way! Yukon Environmental Network is challenging Yukon businesses and organizations to celebrate Earth Day by participating in The Earth Day 2010 Corporate Challenge.

The challenge is simple. Yukon Environmental Network is challenging you to celebrate Earth Day in a meaningful way. Examples: "For one day...Earth Day, April 22, 2% of our profit will be donated to a conservation organization." "On Earth Day 2010 our business will become Chemical Free." Yukoners are creative, I am sure you will come up with some original and meaningful actions that will fit your business (and the environments) means and needs!

If you like a little healthy competition, challenge another business or organization to match your action.

Running concurrently with the challenge will be a, "Did you know..?" campaign, so give us a, 'did you know' line that pertains to your business. For example: "
By using secondary power, Yukon Brewing Company diverts 83 tons of greenhouse gases from affecting our atmosphere each year and avoids the burning of 25040 liters of oil"

Over the coming months a media campaign will highlight the participating organizations and their contributions, actions or events and the winner will be announced on April 22, Earth Day by the Yukon Environmental Network and spotlighted in the media.

Hope to hear from you soon!

FW: [Eegroups] Environmental Education in Alberta - News for EE groups 18 January 2010

Partnership for 21st Century Skills.   This group has developed a vision for student success in the new global economy. This is by no means an environmental group – yet this multi-stakeholder organization has identified environmental literacy, global awareness, and civic literacy as three of their top five themes for students - excellent evidence for the work you try to do as an environmental educator! Visit their website at http://www.21stcenturyskills.org.

The Environmental Education and Training Partnership (EETAP) just released its Environmental Education Professional Development Needs and Priorities Study identified 89 professional development needs for environmental educators.  There are some remarkable similarities and congruencies between the key findings of this study (below, and in attachment) and the work that ACEE plans to do over the next year.  View the study at http://www.eetap.org/pages/dynamic/web.page.php?page_id=116&topology_id=16&eod=1

FW: World Changing Opportunity: Spread the Word

Seeking Motivated Bike Tour Members

Teams of a dozen or more motivated and energetic young people, aged 18 to 30, will set off on cycling and performing tours in 2010. You can be one of them!

Combine sustainable living, community building, theatre, leadership training and phenomenal bicycle touring on an Otesha Project bike tour. Check out this video to see what going on tour is like.

As a tour member you will share an incredible experience as you live in a mobile sustainable community. You will cycle from performance to performance, connect with communities along the route, brave the elements, and explore all the ups and downs of directly addressing environmental and social justice issues through your every day actions. You will use theatre as a tool for education and world changing. No bike touring or other experience is necessary, just a willingness to give it your all.

This year we are offering three tours departing from three different cities across Canada: Vancouver, Ottawa and Fredericton. Check out the tours that are offered HERE.

Apply now - first applied first considered. Applications due by March 15, 2010. Email applications@otesha.ca or check out http://www.otesha.ca/bike+tours/index.en.html for more about the application process.

The Otesha Project is a national youth-run charitable organization created in 2002. We use theatre to mobilize young people to create local and global change through their everyday consumer choices. To date, we have reached over 100,000 Canadians directly with our theatre presentations and workshops that inspire youth to re-evaluate their daily consumer choices to reflect the kind of world they want to live in.
