New UBC Certificate in Environment Ed for educators

2006 Canadian EECOM Excellence in Environmental Education Awards

Calling all Environmental Educators! AWARDS DEADLINE EXTENDED - ACT NOW!! Call for Nominations for the 2006 Canadian EECOM Excellence in Environmental Education Awards It is time to nominate your favorite and much-deserving colleague, NGO and/or institution for an EECOM award! Deadline for submissions: extended to Friday JUNE 23, 2006. What Is EECOM? EECOM is the Canadian Network for Environmental Education and Communications - a national, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to engage Canadians in learning about their environment. It enables teachers in both the formal education system as well as educators and communicators in all other sectors of Canadian society to work together in ways that nurture environmentally informed and responsible individuals, organizations and communities. EECOM has broad-based representation from many disciplines and professions. It is multi-sectoral and multi-regional, and this concept permeates both the structure and mandate of this all-volunteer network. What are the EECOM Awards? Any individual or organization, regardless of whether they are a member of EECOM, can nominate an outstanding Canadian individual and/or institution for an award. Nominations will be accepted in either English or French and all nominations will be evaluated by those fluent in these languages. Once again EECOM has chosen to retain an electronic nominations process this year, which will save time, trees and energy. Please also note that there is a nominations form included as part of the package, to make the process even easier. The EECOM awards categories are listed below - more information can be found in the attachment or on the website: http://www.eecom.org/english/awards.html Outstanding K-12 Teacher Outstanding K-12 School or School District Exemplary educators and/or schools Outstanding Post-Secondary Individual or Institution Individuals or institutions who have made great contributions to environmental education and communications. Outstanding Private Company Business enterprises which have made a major contribution to furthering environmental education and environmental quality. Outstanding Governmental Individual or Agency (i.e. municipal, provincial, first nation, etc.) Any agency and/or individual that has significantly contributed to an environmental education /public awareness. Outstanding Non-Profit Individual Outstanding Non-Profit Organization A non-profit organization or associated individual that has made a significant contribution to EE Outstanding EE Membership Organization This award is to recognize the importance, vitality and accomplishments of environmental education (EE) organizations across Canada. Outstanding Contribution to EECOM This award is to recognize a person who over an extended period of time, has made an outstanding contribution to EECOM Excellence in International Environmental Education Recognizing a Canadian environmental educator or non-profit organization doing exemplary work in an international setting. Consider nominating a colleague - there are so many exemplary and deserving co-workers and peers out there! Check out last years' winners as well on-line, for inspiration! The French version is also available online. Awards will be presented this year at White Point Beach Resort, Nova Scotia, at EECOM's annual conference, October 19 - 22, 2006.
