WILD Education partners Ocean's Day - June 8

Dear Oceans Day Enthusiast,

Oceans Day is fast approaching on June 8th, we hope that we can count on you to join in the celebrations. In Ottawa, the Canadian Wildlife Federation is holding the first annual Ottawa Oceans Fest with a line-up of exciting speakers at the Canadian Museum of Nature, educational events and a community rally at a local beach.

This year’s slogan: Watersheds…your link to Canada’s oceans…explore the connection!, celebrates the wonder of our many unique Canadian watersheds and our special connections to them. To raise awareness about our oceans, CWF distributes Oceans Day educational kits to Canadian schools. This year’s educational kit features a stunning poster of sockeye salmon making their incredible upstream journey in Adams River, British Columbia. The kit also includes our long-awaited Watershed Map and an illustrated watershed poster from a marine perspective. The kit is just chock-full of oceans day activities, perfect even if you live thousands of kilometers from the nearest ocean.

Many community events are taking place across the country and we invite you to organize similar events in your community, neighbourhood or workplace. If you are planning an event, the kits and/or posters are available to you along with prizes that you may wish to use as gifts. Please find the response form attached and return it by e-mail, fax, or mail no later than May 31st. An online form is also available, simply visit http://www.cwf-fcf.org/ and click on Oceans Day.

We hope that you will join us this year in helping spread the Oceans Day message. Thank you again for your support in the past and we hope we can count on you to help make Oceans Day 2006 another huge success, especially for all the wildlife whose very survival depends on the health of our oceans.

Coastal Zone Canada Youth Forum, August 12 - 14, 2006

If you are a student or staffer who qualifies as a youth (30 or younger), or you know a young person who has an interest in Arctic Change and Coastal Communities, you may want to think about participation in the Coastal Zone Canada Youth Forum, August 12 - 14, 2006. All participants are to present a project on the CZC 2006 theme: Arctic Change and Coastal Communities. The submissions may be in the form of a paper, a film, a presentation, a poster, visual or performing art, oral history, or other. Each participant is asked to submit an abstract describing what he or she will be presenting at the Youth Forum. The abstract should briefly describe the project, specifically identifying how it relates to the conference theme of change and sustainability in Arctic coastal communities. The deadline for submitting abstracts is May 7. At this point, there remain a number of places for youth participants. Here is the link to the Youth Forum web site: http://www.czc06.ca/e/youth.html And here is the invitation letter: -------------- April 27, 2006 Calling all Youth! Re: Invitation to Attend Coastal Zone Canada 2006 Youth Forum in Tuktoyaktuk, NWT. We would like to invite you to participate in the Coastal Zone Canada Youth Forum in Tuktoyaktuk, in Canada’s Western Arctic, August 11-14, 2006. If you’re between the ages of 15 and 29, and interested in the environment and change, Tuktoyaktuk NWT is where you'll want to be this summer! The Youth Forum in Tuktoyaktuk will be an exciting opportunity to exchange ideas and learn about new and emerging ways to manage and adapt to coastal change. The theme of this year's conference is "change and sustainability in Arctic coastal communities" and Participants will be considering how livelihoods depend on the coast, from research, to hunting and fishing,to shipping and travel routes. We will look at how coastal residents can better adjust to changing times and conditions. We are confident that the Coastal Zone Canada 2006 Youth Forum will provide many opportunities to learn and share with other youth from the Arctic and the rest of the world. Enclosed is some information about the Youth Forum, which may answer some questions you may have about the Forum. If you would like more information, don't hesitate to contact me at Youth.Forum@czc06.ca, or by replying to this letter at the address above. See you in Tuktoyaktuk! Yours truly, Andrea Hoyt Coastal Zone Canada Association, Tuktoyaktuk, 2006
