With summer upon us, David Zandvliet reflects that with the successes of EECOM 2010 it appears that it is possible to seamlessly weave together diverse topics related to youth engagement, teaching, interpretation and research while also entertaining visitors from across Canada and around the world. Don't miss Greg Lowan's review of Allan Weisman's recently updated version of his book, Gaviotas: A Village to Reinvent the World (2008), an inspiring and comprehensive description of a Colombian community of social and scientific revolutionaries that has flourished amidst extreme social and ecological upheaval for close to forty years.
In our first profiles of winners of the 2009 Canadian Awards of Excellence in Environmental Education Awards, meet Patrick Robertson, a BC educator who brings dedication, interest and professionalism to his diverse work in EE, and discover Belfountain Public School, that, despite pressures to organize curriculum in a subject based manner, has reoriented its focus to incorporate the environment as the learning context for all grades and subjects.
In our REGIONAL REPORT from BRITISH COLUMBIA, Rick Kool reflects on his students' participation in EECOM 2010, noting that of all the things that might make a teacher's heart swell, nothing tops seeing your students become active participants in their field and watching them emerge as leaders and as valued colleagues.

Ne manquez pas l'examen de Greg Lowan de la livre, Gaviotas : Un village pour réinventer le monde (2008), une description inspirante et complète de une communauté de révolutionnaires sociaux et scientifiques qui a prospéré dans les llanos (plaines désertiques) de la Colombie depuis près de quarante ans pendant une période de perturbations extrêmes tant sur le plan social que sur le plan écologique.
